the “frequently asked questions” section
accurate as of 8 march 2023
who made this website?
i did
who mixes/masters your music?
me
the song “nihilism” off written in stone is the only song i didn’t master, it was mastered by ordio productions
who makes your album covers/profile picture?
my good friend wolfhound (link) made my profile picture (the digital drawing one on my socials)! he is very talented and i suggest you support him 🙂
the nihilism and written in stone artworks were both done by myamo (link), another incredibly talented artist who absolutely deserves love
for anything else, check the respective credits for it (will be in the credits section on bandcamp and this site)
how can i see who’s worked on your albums?
you can view every person that was involved with the creation of each album/single on the dedicated page for them on this site. it’s in the notes and credits section
all of this information is also available on my bandcamp, in the credits section of each release page
do you take commissions?
not currently (officially, anyway), but that is something i definitely intend to do in the future, so stay tuned for that 🙂 however, if you would like to commission me for something, contact me using the contact form on this site and we’ll work something out
how can i support you, then?
aside from streaming my music on apple music, spotify and youtube (which does pay me), you can digitally purchase my music on bandcamp and itunes. bandcamp lets you set exactly how much you’d like to pay for each release, so you can use that to donate to me if you’d like 😉
additionally, i’ll have a patreon soon, meaning that if you’d like to support me (and it would be greatly appreciated) you can donate to the patreon and get some cool stuff in return! i’ll announce that on my twitter and instagram when it happens, go follow me there
am i allowed to remix/cover your content? or use it in a video?
all this information is outlined here (link)
covers are absolutely allowed! youtube uploads of said covers are totally fine, just make sure it’s clear I wrote the song
remixes are basically the same except please dm/email me beforehand
you can use my songs in youtube videos without permission, as long as you credit me 🙂 also, if you are an indie game developer/indie game studio, you can also use my songs in your game for free, although please contact me first
info for game studios or film/tv studios is on the above licensing information page
please don’t reupload my songs with no changes to youtube or any other platform. it’s fine if they’re covers or modified versions (mashups, combining 2 tracks to be more seamless or whatever) but do not make uploads like “katsumashi – written in stone full album” even if i’m credited. i put my stuff on basically every streaming service including soundcloud, you don’t need to do this.
why are some of your songs so long?
because it’s cool, that’s why
also, usually the longer ones are more important / more meaningful. they’re also some of the ones I’m most proud of and generally the centrepieces of their respective releases.
i find that longer songs (7-10+ minutes) allow for more interesting ideas and song structures to be explored in that time. of course you can do some insane things with only 3 or 4 minutes (check out “my time” by bo en) but for the particular style I write in – aka, often very ambient and atmospheric – it tends to work better if the ideas evolve over time.
just kidding. that’s all true but actually the main reason is just that I think it’s cool :3 don’t listen to the long ones if you don’t want!
