katsumashi
solo artist fusing indie pop and indie rock with post-rock and progressive metal
About
hey! i’m katsumashi, a solo artist, based in canberra, australia. i write songs that fuse the melodies and sounds of genres like indie pop and indie rock with the complex, lengthy arrangements of progressive metal and post-rock. i use a lot of voice recordings & field recordings over ambient sections, but often those same songs will contain catchy hooks and verse-chorus structure at the same time. that means 8+ (and often 10+) minute tracks aren’t that uncommon for me. nobody else did that so i figured i might as well
i started making music at the age of nine. while it wasn’t very good at the time (obviously, i was 9 lmao), i still really liked doing it. after about five years, i released my first album, written in stone, in 2021. (i count this one as album 0 though. my debut is the one after that.) since then, i’ve been working on improving my skills for a future EP and second album – with vocals this time around, paired with personal lyrics about stuff that happens to me.
Release schedule
i’m hoping to release something every year. the target is at least an album per year, but i doubt i can do that so you might see me alternate between an album and an ep or two every year
